July 31 - August 29, 2010 Opening Reception: Saturday, July 31, 5:00 - 7:00pm
Lakeville's Morgan Lehman Gallery is pleased to present a three person exhibition of paintings that address color theory and the physical properties of the materials used. Nancy Lorenz, Jaq Chartier, and Jeff Perrott will be featuring recent works. This exhibition is the third of the gallery's 9th season.
Nancy Lorenz received her BFA in painting and printmaking from the University of Michigan, after which she completed her MFA in painting at the Tyler School of Art. Lorenz's work can be found in many distinguished private and public collections including The New York Public Library and, among others, the collections of Nathan Lane, Elton John, Thomas O'Brien, and Mr. and Mrs. Cheney. Lorenz reinterprets a Japanese aestheticism through the looser gestures of abstract expressionism. She incorporates decorative materials such as mother of pearl inlay, lacquer, and gold leaf in a painterly and sublime way.
Jaq Chartier received her BFA in painting from the University of Massachusetts. She later pursued her MFA in painting at the University of Washington. Chartier primarily investigates the properties of different materials in an attempt to discover something new about what they do. Chartier explores paints in their most basic and simple forms through experimentation and observation that highlight the artistic nature of scientific investigation.
Jeff Perrott received his MFA from the Yale School of Art and has exhibited in many solo and group shows in and around New England and New York. Perrott explores color theory in his dynamic and whimsical paintings. These compositions represent a single line whose color changes as it winds on and off the canvas, creating a web of intertwined and gradually changing brushstrokes.
